My Child Doesn't Want To Do Karate Anymore, I Don't Want To Force Him

My child doesn't want to do karate anymore, I don't want to force him.

You know I get annoyed when I hear that? Here's my question, who's the parent here the kid or you?

Let me give you something to think about, if your kid says Mom I don't want to go to school anymore, would you let her quit? The answer is usually no, it's important for her life. Right it's important.

Now let me ask you this, would you want them to give up learning self discipline, self control, respect, leadership and so much more? The answer again is usually no they need this in their life.

When it comes to our schools at Sovereign Martial Arts, it's not just an activity, a sport, or something to pass the time by with. We are training champions, leaders of future life. We teach our student skills for life. We provide them tools to use in their lives that turn them into leaders!

It doesn't matter if the child is 3 years old or 17 years old, they are learning valuable lessons in every class they take. Our students are not a number like some mcdojos, we care with our heart soul and body.

I cannot tell you how many times I've heard one of my triplets tell me can I skip class? Can I quit? I don't want to spar, I don't like katas, and so on. I've heard all the excuses, but I still throw them into class, encourage them, never let them give up, and you know what happens, they stop. No they actually stop complaining. Why you ask? My kids know, I will never let them quit. My kids know it's important to me and to themselves to follow through on their commitments.

I admit I've had moments where I was ready to pull one or two from class since they weren't participating or listening well. But I stopped myself. I know it is the best thing for their lives. They may not know it yet, but I am preparing them for a better safer future.

I want my kids to know how to avoid bullies and stranger dangers. I want my kids to be active. I want my kids to be leaders not followers. And I want my kids to succeed in life. I know that's what you want for yours right? Then stop letting the kid be the parent and stand up. Don't let them quit on a commitment.

You are a team with your child. You need to commit yourself as well. You need to be there for the child. You may think you are, but I 70% guarantee you aren't. Are you watching them in class the entire time? Are you not attached to your phone checking Facebook and taking phone calls?

Do me a favor next class your kid takes at Sovereign Martial Arts, turn off your phone. Witness the transformation as they train a skill they begin to master. Let them feel your support. And I promise, they'll be reminding you to take them to class.

That is all I have for today. Remember phones and computers off, eyes on the kid!

See you on the mat!
Ms.Heather
